one post, TWO OUTFITS! that's a downright fashion bargain.

happy Friday everyone!
I managed to remember to document my outfits two days in a row, so i thought I would share with you lovelies... starting with today's outfit!

I am downright TERRIBLE at painting my fingernails. It's one of the many "girl skills" that I'm apparently just not hardwired for. Last week I was trying to do... ahem.. "nail art" and ended up with blue fingers and nail polish on our carpet (true story.) Luckily, the nail polish came out of the carpet, but clearly I will never learn my lesson, because... I painted them again today. I just can't help it I LOVE COLORS. and this is like the perfect red (pretty red by essie, for those who were wondering. which i'm sure TONS of you were /sarcasm). this picture makes me laugh, because I forgot that I had taken my wedding ring off, and you can see the mark on my ring finger from where it usually is... haha

today's outfit was for a lunch date with my pops. we had chinese food and talked about country music and dirty jokes. i love that man. also, we have the exact same hair right now (no i'm not joking)

things of note in that picture: no, i'm not wearing shoes yet. yes, i did eventually wear shoes. boots, actually. AND YES, that IS a cardigan with the letter J on it. which i'm assuming stands for Jessica, which is why it was destiny that I found it at Goodwill.

we're in this odd in-between season in Maine right now. It's not REALLY fall-like any longer, but it's not quite winter yet. There are no bright leaves... everything's sort of just... brown. It's at the point where i actually almost WANT it to snow, just so it looks beautiful.

although, and i know this is weird, i do kind of love the way dead/dried out flowers look. kind of neat, don't you think?

and THIS is yesterday's outfit, worn for walking around town with a friend and her daughter until it started to, rather literally, rain on our parade. i recently rediscovered this huge old shawl and decided to wear it as a scarf for 3 days in a row, like a douche, so of course i posed in a douche-like-manner in this photo. just to continue the theme, you know. seriously, what am i doing? anyways, i love this outfit because it is lazy and comfy but somehow everyone seemed to think i was very well put together? same thing happened with today's outfit. I think I may have finally mastered the art of being lazy but looking socially acceptable. YES! victory!

and now, I am off to a ladies night to do... something. who knows? be a lady!

proof that fall has always been magical:

these photos are from 1937 & 1953... proving my theory that fall has always been everyone's favorite season and should be forever (i'm not ready for winter, can you tell?)

fall forever!

PS. are you on the facebook? have you liked graybird vintage on there yet? you should. i'm trying to, you know, actually update it, but there's always more motivation to do so when I know that there's actually someone reading it. :)

around the house

good morning, loves! how are you today?
i woke up this morning in an exceptionally good mood! i don't know why, but sometimes it just happens (don't you love that?). it's a nice day, and the sun is shining... and i spent an hour last night tidying up my office, so i thought it would be a perfect opportunity to share some snapshots from around my house.

we're still settling in, and things are by no means done or decorated how i want them to be, but... sometimes it's just nice to appreciate all the neat things i have, even if they're not in the place i want them to be yet

(those first two pictures show exactly what i show as i'm sitting here typing! needlework in front of me, my grandmother's aprons on the wall to my left)

i call this creepy dude Cappy O'Pappy. he's one of the strangest things I've ever thrifted, but somehow one of my favorite possessions. I have peculiar taste.

this gaudy gold frame on this painting is further evidence of my always wavering taste

someday i'll post pictures of the house when it all comes together... can't wait for that to happen! (the actual coming together part, not the blog post... i'm not that into myself, geez)

brick and mortar brooding

for the past few days, i've been ridiculously preoccupied with the idea of having my own little shop. and filling it with beautiful vintage clothing and furniture, and neat-o re-purposed pieces... and just, oh! it would be so magical. some of this fascination can probably be blamed on dear golden's post about how she's finally getting a shop (which is amazingly well-deserved, by the by! her etsy is beyond enviable). you can probably also blame that silly hgtv show cash & cari. have you seen it? i can't help but love it.

the other night i couldn't sleep, and spent the late night hours scouring the interwebs for inspiring store interiors (and some exteriors!) to scratch my mental itch. a lot of these are from decor8blog.com and http://internationalvisual.wordpress.com/category/stores (a treasure trove for photos of stores!)

i loved this one, because if i ever opened a shop, i would commandeer the old deli case from my grandparents' old store (they ran a general store in a dusty old mill town from the 50's to the 90's. there's still a TON of stuff in the house. so droolworthy). i think i'd use it as a jewelry display...?

(who doesn't love an anthropologie interior? i mean, really.)

love how these shelves are lined with old maps!

have you ever dreamed of owning a shop? DO you own a shop?! tell me about it! or direct me to some more amazing photos so i can occupy brain some more... :)

quick, cozy outfit!

lately, life has been all about cozy sweaters, boots and tights, crunchy leaves, friends and pizza. and lazy photography. i've gotten really obsessed with instagram (if you use it you should add me! my name is mygraybird. original, i know)

i thought i'd share a (less than impressive iphone) picture of a totally fall-a-rific outfit that i conjured up the other night when i was going over to hang out with some of my favorite ladies:

insanely chunky, cozy sweater - thrifted/vintage (going in the shop soon!)
jeggings - yes, they're jeggings. shut up.
boots - avenue
hideous necklace - a brooch that was given to me by my stepmom that i attached to a chain!
headband - crafted by moi

oh, and! speaking of the shop! i'm going to be taking it off of vaca mode sometime this weekend and putting in some nice cozy fall/winter items. i'm so excited! and hopefully someone else will be too, because i enjoy it thoroughly when people buy the things i'm selling ;)

talk soon,
gb

come on little lion belt

this morning when i woke up it was only about 40 degrees. guess what that means?

TIGHTS!
AND a jacket!
AND a scarf!

i'm just a bit excited for fall weather... can you tell?

jacket - gap thrifted ; scarf - tjmaxx ; tshirt - who knows ; skirt - thrifted vintage ; tights - kohls ; shoes - vintage thrifted

and maybe even MORE exciting than the tights (and the jacket, and the scarf) was the fact that I got to wear my lion belt. yes, you read that right... MY LION BELT!

isn't it a beauty? my friend Kate found it at an antique shop and I convinced her to go halfsies on it with me. we now share custody of it. he's all shiny golden and has rhinestones for eyes. so fab.

oh, and i also wore that cute little hippie-dippie gold flower pin i got from my mother ages ago. you know that saying by coco chanel about how you should always take off one accessory before you leave the house? apparently, i'm not listening. (i even bought earrings while i was out shopping haha)

and even though this last photo makes my mug look oh-so serious.. I assure you that it's been a lovely day. I had tons of fun wandering around with my friends Emma & Kate, and Kate's adorable little munchkin... we did some errands, some shopping, and even squeezed in some time to go frolic in a sunflower field. all in all, a pretty solid friday! I hope that you can say the same! :)
